Emirati Women’s Day

To mark the National Emirati Women’s Day I was commissioned by the Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC) to photograph, and I quote - ‘around 15 of our female employees’.

We set up at ADNOC HQ, and 5 days later we had captured portraits of 172 Emirati women!

When I first received the brief, I was concerned that the portraits would all look the same due to the uniformity of their clothing. I couldn’t have been more wrong. The traditional Arabic Shayla and Abaya intensifies and focusses the attention on the faces and the incredible variety and individuality of the women within that frame.

As a set of images, I think they are incredibly powerful. It is now one of my favourite portfolio pieces.
